June 22nd: Raku Workshop
Raku is an ancient pottery firing technique, a low fire gas firing that creates a reduction environment that shapes colours, textures and shapes from the flame and its combustibles. SBP organizes spring and fall raku firings outside of the lansing street guild in the parking lot with our propane fueled raku kiln.
As per usual, the raku session is a 930 am start weather permitting. Please be sure to have all pieces glazed at least 24 hours before firing. All day attendance (till about 230) is required for participation. Wear long sleeve cotton tops and the cost is flat $10.
Raku clay (or paper clay) may help reduce cracking and breaking pots. It can be purchased here:

Members who are curious about raku are welcome to come to the firing to learn more about the raku process and can email Dunstan if they have any questions.
